Healing for your body by taking care of your immune system
Candida - also called candidasis or yeast infection
is a fungus with the name candida albicans, 10 times bigger than a bacteria. It can be seen as a white thick film on the tongue and the inside of the cheek. The flora of the mouth keeps usually the fungus low, but during antibiotic or cortisone treatment or radiation therapy, it grows quicker and easier. The fungus spreads easy to prosthesis causing discomfort and pressure sore. Fast growing it can cover gums and even teeth. Elderly people and babies are most common affected. It starts when a person has a low immune system. It can as well permeate the lining of the gut and enter the blood stream causing more problems. It can even disrupt the endocrine (hormone) system. Cysts in ovaries, small knots in the breast have been reported to have disappeared after the treatment of candida.
The symptoms vary not only from one person to another even in the same person over a period of time. This is due to the fact that the fungus spreads at the weakest spot in the body helped by an immune deficiency. Depending how far the candida has grown and how long time it could spread the following symptoms can be seen: ear infections, bladder infections, thrush, gas, bloated stomach, allergies, food intolerances, constipation, diarrhea, stomach ache and cramps, anxiety, depression, loss of energy, chronic tiredness….The main areas where it can be found are in the mouth, the esophagus and the digestion area. It can also take a long time to develop and there is often the danger of misdiagnosis.
It is not easy to diagnose candida with traditional methods since it is not always found in the blood or stool; there is a self-testing method with the saliva and there are candida questionnaires. Kinesiology (muscle-test) is more likely to detect candida and can test as well the strength of the immune system.
Boosting your immune system is one of the things you can do. Up to 80 % of our immune system is based in the gut. Most of the people have to be more aware of their diet. Avoiding food with enhancers and additives and artificial color is essential. Wheat products should be minimized as well as dairy products based on cow-milk. Best advice is to go to someone who knows how to test for a suitable diet. Since each body is unique with its weak spots and genetic heritage the same diet or medication does not fit everyone.
Of course you can read a lot about diets to minimize the candida. They are built upon the knowledge that the fungus needs sugar and likes yeast to keep alive and grow. But avoiding all this type of food (fruits, grains, processed meat, some dairy products, alcohol, and caffeine, all sugary and high in carbonate products…) does not mean necessary that you will be successful in stopping the candida overgrowth.
You need to be tested where your weak spots are and what keeps your immune system low. An example: If you have several amalgam fillings in your teeth your body will have to deal with the toxic metals leaking from the fillings and being stored somewhere in your digestion system and/or joints. Your immune system will be on alert 24 hrs to keep those toxins installed by white blood cells to avoid or minimize inflammation. Over the years it gets worse because other toxins from food (enhancers, additives, artificial color…) as well as left-over from former bacterial or viral infections including chemical leftover from antibiotics and eventually taken cortisone is still be found in liver and other parts of the body.
Your immune system will be reduced to a minimum and you will realize that you easy and quickly catch a cold and feel unwell, tired, with lack of energy most of the time. This comes along with a tendency for mood-swings up to depression.
That is why most problems start with higher age. We have just collected too much”debris” and need to get rid of some to feel how it felt when we have been younger and healthier. By testing your body for your weak spots and the cause of it for example with kinesiology-test and Bioresonance computer the root cause can be detected and treated as well. Only then it makes sense to continue the fight against the overgrowth of candida.
Oral contraceptives are also well-known for bringing the gut flora out of balance. In case of a poor digestion it might be necessary to add digestive enzymes. Be aware that food prepared in the micro-wave minimizes essential vitamins and minerals. Meat, fish and milk-products should NEVER be warmed in the microwave. Studies with mice fed only with protein-food warmed in the microwave showed a higher than 90% rate of developing cancer. It is well known in Germany not to warm milk for children in the microwave. It is important to find ways to reduce stress as well.
Not only as prevention as well as treatment – a tongue scraper is an important tool in cleaning the tongue from bacteria and fungus. Best to use it, is after brushing your teeth. Do not use your toothbrush since it will help spreading the microbes. Cleaning your tongue twice daily regularly with a professional tongue scraper will reduce the chance of getting a cold and influenca. Ask your dentist for a tongue scraper.
A good anti-fungus mouth wash is a mixture of coconut oil combined with a few drops of oregano oil. Swish this mixture around in your mouth like you would do with mouthwash and then spit it out. Coconut oil contains caprylic acid which is a powerful antifungal as well as oregano oil. Both mixed together have a doubling effect as anti-yeast agents and help killing the candida. This is best done after teeth-brushing and tongue scraping. There are capsules called “Candida Clear” which contain caprylic acid and will help fighting the candida. Candida Clear™ is a combination of herbal ingredients (Pau D'Arco, Black Walnut and Oregano Oil), Biotin (a B-complex vitamin) and Caprylic Acid (a naturally occurring fatty acid derived from plant oils).
Every person has approximately one pound (0.4kg) of bacteria in their system. There are over 100 trillion of bacteria living inside your intestine, most of which are beneficial. Their job is to digest your food and help you to absorb the goodness from your food. Keeping this system in a healthy balance supports both your digestion and your immune system. An overgrowth of Candida knocks this system out of balance and is called dysbiosis.
Because Candida is a fast growing yeast, it can rapidly reproduce after any negative shock to the intestine (for example antibiotics). A course of full spectrum antibiotics will kill most of your beneficial bacteria, giving the Candida yeast an opportunity to rapidly grow and dominate your gut.
Probiotics are an effective part of Candida treatment because they reintroduce helpful bacteria to your gut. These bacteria create large, healthy colonies that crowd out the Candida yeast, regulate your stomach acidity and boost your immune system.
Take high quality probiotics. They contain FOC, fructo oligo saccharide which provide nourishment for the probiotic bacteria until they reach your digestive system. A good probiotic supplement contains a variety of good bacteria, minimum 14 different types because there are 28 strains of candida and you want to kill as many as possible. The amount of good bacteria should be as high as possible – between 25 units to 100 billion units to help reduce the candida levels and to restore the good bacteria.
A lowered immune system will also put you on higher risk for decay in teeth and gum problems. There is a very healthy way of helping your teeth by using a specific chewing gum called Xylitol. Xylitol is a tooth friendly, nonfermentable sugar alcohol. Xylitol is a type of sweetener and is found in some plants. It looks and tastes like sugar, but has 40 % fewer calories. The structure of Xylitol contains a tridentate ligand, that can rearrange with polyvalent cations like Ca²+. This interaction allows Ca²+ to be transported through the gut wall barrier and through saliva which may allow enamel to remineralize before dental cavities form. Studies from Finland have found that Xylitol is taken up into the cell and interfering with bacterial growth and reproduction. The harmful micro-organisms are starved in the presence of Xylitol, allowing the mouth to remineralize damaged teeth with less interruption.
At least six grams of Xylitol per day, in three to five chewing episodes, is thought to be needed for dental efficiency. Xylitol proved to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus pneumonia as well as the attachment of Haemophilus influenza on the nasopharyngeal cells. Xylitol chewing gum appears to decrease rates of acute otitis media (ear infection) in children by 25 %. Xylitol nasal sprays have also been shown to decrease incidence of acute otitis media as well as being a very effective way of both assisting and stimulating the body's own natural nasopharyngeal washing, and reducing both bacterial colonization and allergenic pollution, with their accompanying problems. Sugar alcohols are safe for alcoholics.
